Computing

'A high-quality computing education equips pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world.'

National Curriculum 2014

Technology is everywhere and plays a pivotal part in student's lives.  Here at St. Joseph's we want to teach our pupils to use technology positively, responsibly and safely.   We aim to give our pupils the skills they need to utilise technology creatively and positively.  We believe that the best was to address issues that arise through technology is through education.

Computing Heroes:

Our Spring Term Computing hero is Alan Turing.

  • He made major contributions to the fields of mathematics, computer science and artificial intelligence.
  • He invented the Turing machine which became the basis of all digital computers.
  • He invented a code-breaking machine that was used to learn the German military secrets during WWII.
  • He has an award named after him.  Every year, a person who has made a great contribution to computer science is awarded the Turing Award.

What else can you find out about him?
