Understanding the World: People and Communities

In the EYFS children are encouraged to show an interest in the lives of people who are familiar to them.  Children discuss family members, grandparents, siblings and other people who are important to them.  They talk about their community, their own home and also the homes, families and communities of other children.  They are encouraged to see the similarities and differences in each other's family and to share and discuss these differences.
