Physical Education

At St Joseph’s P.E. is taught by ASM and Mrs Burrows. Pupils are offered a variety of sports activities within the curriculum that include gymnastics, dance, games, swimming and water safety and athletics activities. Sports activities include football, netball, cross-country, tag-rugby, hockey, rounders, kwik-cricket, tennis, swimming and athletics. Games lessons are mixed and boys and girls participate in all of these activities. Pupils are taught to acquire and develop skills, select and apply skills, tactics and compositional ideas, evaluate and improve their performance, and improve their knowledge and understanding of fitness and health. P.E. is an important aspect of the curriculum and, unless there is a sound medical reason why a child cannot participate, they are expected to do so. If a child needs to be excused, a letter stating the reasons why must be sent to the child’s teacher. Pupils in Key Stage 2 attend swimming lessons at Uttoxeter Leisure Centre. Swimming hats are required for all children, swimming goggles may only be worn with written parental permission, and precautions need to be taken if a child is suffering from a veruca.
